Neal grew up across the water in New Bedford and first picked up a hammer when he was 12 years old, helping his father build the family home. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, and upon his return went into the construction business. He spent occasional weekends fishing on Martha’s Vineyard, and for a change of pace one year he decided to spend the summer working with an island construction firm. That was 1976, and when the summer ended, Neal stayed on Martha’s Vineyard and workedas an independent construction contractor for the next nine years. Marriage, children, and a mortgage convinced him that a steady job was in his future. That is when Neal heard about Doyle Construction.
Neal Galligan joined Joe and Jamie in 1985 as a Crew Foreman and became one of the Doyle Construction’s owners in 1988. Upon joining Doyle Construction Neal was exposed to and found a passion for the project management systems utilized by the Company to support the estimating, schedule and cost controls necessary for the work they performed. He also advanced from a Crew Foreman to Site Supervisor, at times overseeing multiple projects. In anticipation of Jamie’s extended leave of absence in 1990, Neal made the transition from the Site to the office as Project Manager and Site Supervisor and took on the shared responsibilities of General Manager for the Company. Neal is one third owner of Doyle Construction and, through the years, has brought new technology to Doyle Construction’s project management systems with his strong interest in computers and IT. The technically complex, quality demanding, and larger Architect designed homes that Doyle Construction builds demands Neal’s complete attention. “Sometimes I feel like I’m dealing with 100 things at once,” he says, “but it’s challenging and exciting and I like working with our clients.”
Neal lives in West Tisbury with his wife, Brenda, an Island real estate agent. Their Family has three children: Amy, a jewelry designer; Paul, a Carpenter at Doyle Construction; and Kevin, a student at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. In his spare time, Neal enjoys golf, scuba diving, cabinet making, and cheering on his youngest son in sports.
