Joe was born in Pennsylvania, but as an Army brat he grew up hop-scotching around the country every few years with his parents and three brothers. Joe eventually landed in Wellfleet on Cape Cod, where his Mother’s Family lived. He worked for the Truro Air Force Base, experienced some commercial fishing for a few years, and spent summers surfing. Joe came to Martha’s Vineyard in 1980 and worked for the Weatherly Company building the Kennedy Onassis Estate in Aquinnah. That is when he found his niche: constructing quality homes, in particular planning and performing the technically complex and high quality work that these projects demand. Joe has relentlessly followed this passion, fine-tuned his construction skills along the way, and has never looked back for the past 30 years. Along with being one of the founders and one third owner of Doyle Construction, in 1990 Joe took on the shared responsibilities of General Manager with Neal. Joe continues to perform the responsibilities as both Project Manager and Site Supervisor for the Company’s most complex and challenging projects. “We like what we do, and we’re good at what we do,” Joe says. “I plan to be in this business for a long time.”
Joe makes his home in Chilmark with his wife, Susan, who owns Edgartown’s Boucle salon, and their two children, Cooper and Hadley. He relaxes by working in his garden, surfing, scuba diving, and fishing.
